SEVENTIES FLASHBACK
It was during the 1970s some of the Cairo stars had their heyday. Nagwa Fouad, Soheir Zaki, Fifi Abdou and Mona el Said had big personalities and their own individual styles. Learn some of their signature movements to enhance your own dancing.

An introduction to the dances, from the Charleston and the Shimmy to the ’Black Bottom’ and Burlesque, that evolved in the 1920’s following Little Egypt’s arrival at the Chicago World Trade Fair.
ASSAYA – THE EVOLUTION FROM SAIDI STICK TO CAIRO CANE
See how this traditional dance has been transformed into a performance piece on the Cairo stage. You will learn stick technique which will then be used in a lively choreography.
DISCOVER YOUR INNER MAALIMA (boss woman)!
We will be working with a melaya, the traditional black piece of material worn by Egyptian women in Cairo and Alexandria, to bring out our sassy side. Bring a pair of mules and some chewing gum!

BURLESQUE FEVER
An introduction to the playful and cheeky world of burlesque. You don’t have to remove any clothing if you don’t want to – it’s all about the tease. You will get in touch with your inner sex kitten and have a lot of fun doing so! We will be working on a choreography to Peggy Lee’s ‘Fever’. Bring a feather boa, gloves and a pair of high heels.
